Every Drop Goes Into the Flowerpot
Sometimes it takes a simple re-design to add functionality and solve a problem. For example the Cavity Flowerpot – it’s designed with four receptacles to hold wet umbrellas. Excess water drains off and collects into a dish whereby plants absorb into their root system. Good idea.

Picture Perfect Shot
REC is a delightful camera that gives the subject an equal opportunity to view his pose as the camera clicks the picture. A rotating display at the back of the camera slides out to show what’s being captured in the frame. It may sound like a silly idea but I’ve had many good shots ruined because I trusted the photography skills of complete strangers. REC, you get my thumbs up!

A Twisted Outlet Extension
Plug too big? Just flip it. AC adapter don’t fit? Just flip it. No idea what I’m talking about? I’m talking about the Flipi, an outlet extension with three sockets that pivot at a press of a button. Attach glowing stickers too so you know what’s actually plugged into each socket.

Providing the Third Basic Need
Shelter is one of the three basic necessities — this is why this project exists, and this is why if it doesn’t work, something eventually must. Quoting UN Habitat, the designer of the project notes that the number of people living in slums is currently at 1 billion, and is likely to grow to 2 billion by 2030. Blocks House is an shelter project made to create houses of any size to accommodate a family. Blocks Houses are made of recycled Polyethylene, Polypropylene and can protect people from the elements at a low cost.
Creating a new pod (or Blocks House) is a process that requires only the molding of sets of two or three unique blocks, its inexpensiveness making it accessable to slum villages. Replacement pieces can be accessed, and old houses can be recycled into new ones. Blocks House relies on natural resources like daylight, air, and rain water harvesting ability, and is not attached to the land so that it may be easily dismantled and moved around.

An Illuminating Idea
The Book Light is made from a solid translucent plastic body with integrated LEDs and doubles as a bookmark. You can recharge it and set the illumination intensity using touch controls. Like any polite night owl, partake in joy of reading without disturbing others.

USB Drive Has Another Electrifying Side
So you have a USB drive that you use quite often, so often that you keep it hooked to your computer most of the time. What added value can we give to that USB stick drive? How about doubling as a AA battery! Yes, the kind that recharges in USB mode and turns into a functional AA when the need arises; rightly calling it the AA USB.

Shave with a Flick of a Finger
Ring-shaver is a small, tube-shaped shaver that slips over the finger. In comparison to traditional shaving, Ring-shaver allows a more flexible shaving action. A toggle switch activates the flywheel to provide the necessary driving force. Ring-shaver does not require charging. It saves energy and is easy to carry. Great for sparse facial hair.
Ring-shaver is a

Separating rubbish is time consuming and nobody likes to do it. A micro-level system to make the job easy is the Trash Classification Bin. The bin-in-bin is used to put in all your organic waste while the bigger bin holds inorganic stuff. A very non-messy and quick way to do your bit. I’ll take one for my office, please.

Auto Freedom for Brazil and Beyond
By now, since I and we have mentioned it so often due to its massive spread of influence over the world of industrial design, we must assume you’ve seen the movie Minority Report. This film is a futuristic vision of the world in which one of the greatest innovations is the integrated highway system, one where no longer are there roads on which you can crash your car, but essentially rails on which you plug your destination in and you’re carried along your way. What the designers in this project have done is to make that auto system a reality – sort of.
The “OU” project, this set of cars and the highways they drive on, is a manifestation of ou, aka “or” in Portuguese. This project comes from the designer’s desire to deal with a common Brazilian desire to be flexible and get to and from locations at the times they wish rather than riding on public transport and fitting themselves to that timeline and set of guidelines. This project wants to provide that individual transport, the kind that allows for movement at any time for any person, to also work on conserving space, energy consumption, and to reduce pollution (compared to a gas guzzling car for each person.) This track and car system is a design inspired by the movement of shoal-fish. Colorful, unified, and wonderful.
