سازمان فضایی ایالات متحده، ناسا در سال 2008 و همزمان با پنجاهمین سالگرد تأسیس خود برای اولین بار در مجموعه سفر به فضا بزرگترین و مهم ترین عملیات های خود در فضا که دنیا و تاریخ بشریت را تکان داد به تصویر کشیده است. در این مجموعه همچنین خود فضا نوردان و دانشمندانی که این عملیات ها را خلق کرده بودند در مقابل دوربین برای دوست داران فضا از پیچیدگی ها و خاطرات ترک زمین و پای گذاشتن به دنیای فضا سخن می گویند. از گذر انسان از جو زمین، پای نهادن انسان بر سطح ماه، راهپیمایی انسان در فضا، ایجاد اولین پایگاه انسان در فضا و ... .
